Born in Mumbai to a Mangalorean Catholic family, the actress Genelia D’Souza had always dreamt of making it big in the film industry. The actress was lucky enough to get tremendous support from her mother, Jeanette D’Souza, who quit her job just to help her daughter pursue her dreams. According to the actor, her name is a portmanteau of her parent’s name (Jeanette and Neil), which is in itself quite unique. Genelia is known for being a down-to-earth person with bubbly looks, which helped her in grabbing excellent roles as well.
Genelia started her career with a television commercial for a Parker pen with Amitabh Bachchan. The commercial attained excellent response, and soon, she was flooded with other modeling assignments. She made her debut with Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003, where she was cast opposite Ritesh Deshmukh. She gained acclamation for her roles in movies like Masti and Jaane tu ya Jaane Na, apart from several other Tamil movies for which she grabbed a few awards as well. Genelia was chased by the media due to her relationship with Ritesh Deshmukh ever since the duo was casted in Tujhe Meri Kasam. However, the couple initially denied the fact that they were romantically attached.
Personal Life and Controversies
After an 8-year-long relationship with Ritesh, Genelia announced their marriage after the release of Force, an action thriller opposite John Abraham. However, a controversy broke out about the marriage sequence from the movie, where the scenes were so realistic that a priest slammed complaints against the producer, Vipul Shah, claiming that the actress was already married to John because of the shoot. Later, the complaint was revoked, and Genelia tied the knot with Ritesh on the 3rd of February in 2012 after the release of their movie Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya.
